COMMERCIAL RENOVATION
The former Wisbech Post Office and Telephone Exchange, located on Bridge Street, has undergone a substantial transformation from a former commercial and public-service building into a modern residential development comprising 33 one-bedroom apartments and two commercial units.
The conversion required a comprehensive plumbing and heating installation to support the new residential accommodation, with the existing building infrastructure being extensively upgraded and adapted to meet the demands of the new development. Direct unvented hot water systems were installed to provide each apartment with a reliable and efficient domestic hot water supply. The system was designed to suit the individual requirements of the apartments while maintaining consistent hot water performance throughout the development.
Individual cold water rising main systems were installed, together with a dedicated water boosting system to ensure adequate water pressure and flow across the building. This was particularly important given the scale of the development and the multiple apartments being supplied from the central water infrastructure.
The existing drainage infrastructure was comprehensively upgraded, with soil and waste pipework replaced throughout the development. New drainage arrangements were carefully coordinated within the existing structure to provide reliable and efficient foul and wastewater removal while accommodating the new apartment layouts.
Full domestic plumbing installations were undertaken throughout the 33 apartments, incorporating new hot and cold-water services, sanitaryware connections, kitchen plumbing and associated pipework. The bathrooms and en-suites were installed to a high standard, with all services carefully coordinated to provide a clean and modern finish within the newly refurbished apartments.
The project presented the additional challenges associated with converting an existing building, requiring careful coordination of new plumbing infrastructure within the retained structure. Existing services were assessed and upgraded where required, allowing the new installations to integrate effectively with the building while providing reliable long-term performance.
The completed plumbing installation provides the development with a modern and robust water and drainage infrastructure, supporting the 33 residential apartments and two commercial units and helping to transform the former Post Office into a high-quality modern residential development.
